Unable to change display settings in vista

I just purchased a used version of Windows Vista and loaded it on my computer. Everything is working fine other than I cannot change the settings on my display. I am stuck at x pixels and 16 bit. I ran BeLarc Advisor to see my computer information. I can provide this if needed.
